Dr. Ramtin Haghnazar

Visiting Scholar, School of Architecture

B. Arch, University of Tehran
M.S., University of Tehran
Ph.D., University of Tehran
Ramtin Haghnazar is an Iranian Designer and visiting scholar embedded in the BioDesign Research Group. His role in the group is to deepen the application of computational design and fabrication with biological standardless materials. His current focus is developing symbiotic design structures from bamboo culms and tree canopy limbs. His goal is to produce technology-enhanced methods that positively impact lowering the environmental burden buildings make on the environment. He holds a Ph.D. in Architectural Computation from the University of Tehran, where his research focused on developing a computational tool to help architects to design and fabricate nonstandard freeform structures.
He is also a Co-founder of Dahi Studio; he has a decade of experience in fabrication-oriented design and modeling. He has worked internationally as a computational designer on projects in Frankfort, Toronto, Istanbul, Baku, Tehran, Mashhad, and Doha. Dahi Studio established an embedded digital fabrication laboratory, Digital Craft House, as a private venture located inside the walls of the University of Art, Tehran, where he pursued his research and development as the lab co-director.
Ramtin has taught courses and workshops on architectural design, computational design, and digital fabrication for bachelor and master students at the University of Tehran, the University of Art Iran, and Pars University as a lecturer, workshop tutor, and coordinator. Starting in 2023, he will also contribute to courses at Virginia Tech in the Architecture and Industrial Design programs.
